This is a superb example of technology and marketing. Tesco Kor
ea has adopted an innovative way to gain market share by creating a virtual shopping mall in one of the many Korean subways.
Whilst waiting for a tube, travellers can boot up the QR code reader in their smartphones and peruse and select from the virtual groceries that are on display along the entire length of the platform. The goods are then collated as a shopping list, click and they are ordered for delivery.
There is something really human about this. It harnesses our enthusiasm for smartphones and marries it to two things (1) people generally like to be seen to be tech savvy and the act of shopping like this in public certainly demonstrates, quite publically that CHECK ME OUT – I AM A TECH SAVVY SHOPPER (2) we all need groceries right?
The result has turned something mundane (shopping) in to something very cool to do.
