LBi Infi-Knit campaign, perling one for Macmillan cancer charity

Brandshandy was visiting a mate at the not too shabby LBi HQ in the Truman Brewery yesterday.  During the tour we were shown the door to a ‘special room’ and warned not to go in…..obviously this made us curious.

A quick peer through the glass revealed a bizarre scene.  The room had a giant knitting machine whirring away that was churning out an endless green and white scarf.

“It’s the Macmillan Infi-kint campaign.” our host explained.

Commissioned by cancer care charity Macmillan and launched last December, Infi-Knit is a web powered knitting machine built to create a woollen petition to highlight the plight of cancer patients living in fuel poverty.  Cancer patients have higher fuel bills because they feel the cold more and spend more time at home during treatment and recovery.

To take part you simply go to the specially created campaign website, register yourself (10 seconds) and send in your response to the question: what makes you feel warm?   The machine then interprets this in real-time and adds a unique line or two to the scarf which is currently in the region of 100 meters long.

There is also a live webcam set up so you can, well watch the knitting action live.  Hence the room itself is off-limits to nosey parkers like us.

Visit the site www.infi-knit.org.uk , take part and create some warmth.
